DIVISION 1. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

APPEAR INCORRECT, INADEQUATE, OBSOLETE, OR UNSUITABLE
FOR ACTUAL FIELD CONDITIONS, OR WHICH CONTRACTOR WILL
NOT WARRANT AS REQUIRED BY CONTRACT DOCUMENTS. DO
NOT PROCEED WITH WORK IN AREAS WHERE ERRORS,
DISCREPANCIES, INCONSISTENCIES, OR OMISSIONS ARE FOUND

PROCEDURES, AND SAFETY PRECAUTIONS AND PROGRAMS IN
CONNECTION WITH THIS PROJECT.
1.04 THE CONTRACTOR IS TO INSURE THAT ALL WORK
COMPLIES WITH ALL APPLICABLE CODES AND IS PERFORMED
FOLLOWING ALL STANDARDS, AND REQUIRED SAFETY
REGULATIONS, INCLUDING OSHA REQUIREMENTS.
1.05 THE CONTRACTOR SHALL OBTAIN AND PAY FOR ALL
REQUIRED PERMITS REQUIRED FOR CONSTRUCTION.
1.06 CONTRACTOR SHALLVFrRIFY ALL DIMENSIONS NOTED AND

3.) PRIOR TO FABRICATION OF DUCTWORK, CONTRACTOR SHALL EXAMINE AND VERIFY ALL CONDITIONS ABOVE AND BELOW THE
CEILING WHICH MAY INTERFERE WITH THE WORK SHOWN AND NOTIFY THE ARCHITECTS OF ANY CONFLICT ENCOUNTERED. THE
CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE ALL OFFSETS, ETC. WHICH MAY BE REQUIRED, WITHOUT ADDITIONAL COST TO THE OWNER.
4.) ALL SHEET METAL CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE IN STRICT ACCORDANCE WITH SMACNA DUCT CONSTRUCTION STANDARDS. FLEX DUCT
SHALL BE LIMITED TO NO MORE THAN 10 FEET. ALL BRANCH RUN -OUTS SHALL BE EQUIPPED WITH VOLUME DAMPERS TO PROVIDE
PROPER BALANCING OF THE SYSTEM.
5.) ALL DUCTSNENTS SHALL BE INSULATED TO MEET THE MASSACHUSETTS ENERGY CODES. THE DUCTS/VENTS SHALL ALSO BE
SUPPORTED WITH 1" WIDE, 16 GAUGE GALVANIZED STEEL BAND, OR AN APPROVED SUPPORT SYSTEM.
6.) ALL MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT SHALL BE INSTALLED WITH THE UTMOST CARE AND CONSIDERATION TO PREVENT ANY NOISE AND
VIBRATION MIGRATION TO THE LIVING SPACE. THIS IS TO INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO ALL HEATING, COOLING AND VENTILATION
EQUIPMENT AS WELL AS ASSOCIATED DUCT WORK. ALL MOVINGNIBRATING EQUIPMENT SHALL BE RESILIENTLY SUPPORTED, WHICH
MAY INCLUDE ISOLATION DAMPERS. ALL RIGID DUCTS SHOULD BE INSTALLED WITH SOUND DAMPENING LINERS FOR THE FIRST 20 FEET
(MINIMUM). THE GOAL FOR THE LIVING SPACE IS TO ACHIEVE A NOISE CRITERIA 25 (NC-25) RATING.
7.) ALL INTAKE AND EXHAUST TERMINATIONS SHALL BE EXECUTED IN STRICT ACCORDANCE WITH THE MASSACHUSETTS STATE
BUILDING CODE, THE STATE FUEL GAS AND PLUMBING CODE AND THE MANUFACTURER OF THE EQUIPMENT RECOMMENDATIONS.
8.) ERV AND BATH EXHAUST DUCTWORK TO BE GALVANIZED STEEL WITH FLEX DUCT ALLOWED FOR THE FIRST 6 FEET.
9.) KITCHEN VENTING EXHAUST DUCTS TO HAVE SMOOTH INTERIOR WALL AND MUST BE A MINIMUM OF 28 GAGE GALVANIZED STEEL.
10.) BOILER INTAKE AND EXHAUST VENTING BY 3"R CPVC. INTAKE AND EXHAUST TO BE PITCHED BY AT LEAST 1/4" PER FOOT BACK TO
THE BOILER.
11.) METAL BACK DRAFT DAMPERS WITH NEOPRENE GASKET TO BE INCLUDED ON ALL BATH VENTS AND KITCHEN VENTS.
12.) ALL SUPPLY REGISTERS SHALL BE BASED ON AIR VELOCITIES OF 500 FPM. ALL RETURN REGISTERS SHALL BE BASED ON AIR
VELOCITIES OF 400 FPM. ADEQUATE FREE AREA AT THE REGISTER SHALL BE PROVIDED TO ENSURE THESE VELOCITIES ARE MET.
13.) AIR TERMINATIONS AND LOUVERS SHALE BE SIZED AND INSTALLED TO PREVENT WATER (RAIN OR SNOW) AND INSECT INTRUSION
INTO THE DUCTWORK/BUILDING. THE VELOCITY OF AIR THROUGH AN INTAKE OR EXHAUST LOUVERITERMINATION SHALL BE KEPT AT
500 FPM OR LESS. THE MATERIAL OF THE TERMINATION SHALL BE SELECTED BY THE ARCHITECT (RECOMMEND STAINLESS STEEL OR
ALUMINUM). MULTIPLE INTAKES OR EXHAU ;TS CAN BE GROUPED TOGETHER WHERE ALLOWED BY CODE TO FORM A SINGLE
TERMINATION FOR EACH.
14.) ALL THERMOSTATS AND HUMIDISTATS SHALL BE MOUNTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE AMERICAN DISABILITY ACT (ADA). THE
EXACT LOCATION SHALL BE VERIFIED BY THE ARCHITECT.
15.) ALL HOT WATER PIPING SHALL BE TYPE L COPPER WITH LEAD FREE JOINTS. OXYGEN BARRIER CROSS -LINKED POLYETHYLENE
(PEX AND PEX-AL-PEX) ARE ALSO ACCEPTA3LE. ALL PIPING IS TO BE INSULATED WITH POLYURETHANE OR EQUIVALENT TO PREVENT
HEAT LOSS AND CONDENSATION. THE INSULATION (R-VALUE) IS TO MEET THE MASSACHUSETTS ENERGY CODES.
16.) THE BOILER SHALL BE SET WITH OUTDOOR RESET CONTROL TO ENSURE EFFICIENT OPERATION AND REDUCE SHORT CYCLING.
17.) ALL CONDENSATE DRAINS SHALL BE PITCHED AT A MINIMUM SLOPE OF 1/4" PER LINEAR FOOT TO A WASTE WATER DRAIN. BOILER
CONDENSATE SHALL BE NEUTRALIZED USING THE APPROPRIATE NEUTRALIZING AGENT. IF ACCESS TO A WASTE WATER DRAIN IS NOT
AVAILABLE THEN A CONDENSATE PUMP SHALL BE PROVIDED BY THE CONTRACTOR, WITHOUT ANY ADDITIONAL COST TO THE OWNER.
